Ascot Announces Key Promotions in UK Claims

Ascot’s global Claims organisation is focused on driving operational and service excellence to both maintain our position as a leading market performer and to achieve our mission to be a perfect partner for a less-than-perfect world. To that end, we are pleased to announce the following updates in Ascot Syndicate Claims:

James Short has been promoted to Chief Claims Officer, UK, responsible for the Syndicate Claims function, including claims disputes and the oversight and control of all outsourced adjusting providers. James joined Ascot in 2007 as Claims Manager for Syndicate 1414, working alongside the team to successfully build our innovative claims structure. Over the past 18 years, he has held a number of positions at the company, rising to Director of Syndicate Claims Operations in 2022. Throughout this time, he has been key to driving claims operational success in the UK and has handled many large market losses across multiple classes of business. James began his career as a claims broker in the London market in 1996 following the completion of his master’s degree in marine law. He is currently a Board Director of the International Association of Claims Professionals and has represented Ascot on numerous LMA groups and committees.

Additionally, Christine Neale has been appointed Head of Claims Operations, UK, managing all aspects of the Syndicate Claims operations and assisting the Chief Claims Officer, UK in overseeing the claims service provided. Christine joined Ascot in 2023 as Syndicate 1414’s Delegated Underwriting Claims Manager, where she has been influential in developing our approach and frameworks for delegated claims management, fostering stronger partnerships with our global claims partners. She has nearly 20 years of experience working in the Lloyd’s market, 10 of which has been spent managing claims operational functions. Through claims and operational roles of increasing responsibility at Brit Insurance, AmTrust Lloyd’s and DTW1991, Christine expanded her expertise and gained valuable experience, enabling her to improve our delegated claims management structures at Ascot.

Optimised claims handling and management is critical to fulfilling our promise to our clients: to be there when they need us most. In these new roles, James and Christine, equipped with technical expertise, organisational knowledge and extensive experience in the Lloyd’s market, will be key to positioning Ascot claims as a long-term market leader.
